I haven’t done a Top Ten list in ages now, so I’m about due to post a new one! Here is a list of the Top Ten books that I plan on reading this summer!
1. My Life Next Door
My Life Next Door has been getting tons of rave reviews online! It’s been on my to-read list for months now, but I’ve been waiting until the summer to finally pick it up. This YA romance is described as a “dreamy summery read” which makes it the perfect pick for a warm July afternoon when I just want to lounge outside in the backyard with a glass of iced tea beside me!
2. The 5th Wave
Apparently this book is supposed to be the next Hunger Games. Whether or not it will live up to those high comparisons has yet to be determined. The 5th Wave has been getting a lot of positive buzz though, and was chosen by the CEO of Chapters as one of the hottest books of the summer. Guess I’ll definitely have to check it out now!
Catherine McKenzie’s latest book actually hits shelves today! I’ve LOVED her other books, so I’m really looking forward to curling up with this one as soon as I can this summer! I don’t know too much about the plot of this one, because I want to be surprised when I start reading it, but I do know that it has something to do with a family secret….
This New Adult book has been popping up consistently on my Goodreads news feed for the past two months, and all of the reviews have absolutely gushed about how amazing it is! The book is apparently about an 18 year old girl whose father has recently passed away. She then starts to fall for a guy with a passion for slam poetry, until a shocking revelation puts their relationship to a halt. Sounds intriguing enough for me!
5. Second Chance Summer
This book is actually on my list from last summer! Shame on me! Focusing on a family who has just received terrible news, Second Chance Summer sounds like it might be a bit of a tear jerker. I’m hoping, however, that it isn’t as depressing as I think!
6. Big Girl Panties
I stumbled across this book at work during one of my many hours spent reading Kirkus reviews and Publishers Weekly. It received pretty decent praise, and the plot sounds cute and enjoyable! Big Girl Panties is about a young widow who tries to get into shape and ends up falling for her personal trainer. It comes out in July, and I’ve already placed a hold on it at work!
This is another book that I decided to add to my to-read list after reading a review of it at work! Crash appears to be your typical YA romance: talented girl falls for the school’s bad boy; but it sounds like it also has a lot of potential! I’ve already placed my hold on it at the library!
8. The Ocean at the End of the Road
Neil Gaiman’s recent release sounds absolutely fantastic! I loved American Gods, so I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of The Ocean at the End of the Road! It sounds like it will be the perfect read for one of those summer thunderstorms that roll into my city at least once a week.
One of my friends has been telling me to read this book for over a year now, so I’m going to make it my duty to make sure that I do this summer! Scarlet is a retelling of the classic Robin Hood story. I’ll have to pull this one out when I’m in the mood for a bit of fantasy and adventure!
10. Beautiful Ruins
This summery book takes place in the sun drenched coast of Italy in the 1960s. A love story between an Italian hotel owner and a movie star, Beautiful Ruins sounds like a luxurious summertime read! I constantly see this book being taken out and requested at work, so I’ll have to see what all the fuss is about!
